A good budget smartphone for basic use
The Poco C50 has a starting retail price of Rs 6,499, which makes it an amazing smartphone for people upgrading to a cheap 5G mobile. Asking too much for a phone in this price range would be excessive. However, it should at least be able to handle all your regular household chores like watching movies, sending emails and using WhatsApp while still having a long battery life. So let’s put everything we’ve just said to the test in this Poco C50 review and decide if this phone is worth getting.
Poco C50 review: Design and display
The smartphone is relatively light and comfortable to hold in the hand. The Poco C50 has a very simple design. The material used for the back, polycarbonate, has a matte finish that resembles leather. The nicest feature is that it is fingerprint and smudge resistant and has a nice texture. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back panel. Although it is an outdated technology, it unlocks the device really fast and works quite well.

Another plastic element is the side frames. A dedicated micro SD card (up to 512GB) and a SIM card slot that can accommodate two nano SIM cards are located on the left side of the device, while the volume rocker and power buttons are located on the right side. On the top and bottom frames are the speaker grille and the micro USB port for charging.

The selfie camera is housed in a teardrop-shaped cutout on the front. The Poco C50 has a 6.52-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1,600 x 700 pixels. The sampling frequency of touch on the screen is 120 Hz. Although the glass of the phone is protected by Panda Glass, it is still strongly recommended to put a cover on it that protects the front and back.
Text and graphics are incredibly sharp and clear, even if the quality isn’t full HD. Another feature is impressive color reproduction. Watching movies and videos is amazing. The maximum resolution of YouTube videos is FHD, but with a lag of about 60 frames per second for movies. We experienced minor frame drop when watching FHD 30 fps videos. Since the phone doesn’t support Widevine L1, OTT apps like Netflix and others will only support a maximum resolution of 540p. Unsurprisingly; it’s a cheap phone, but content is still crisp and easy to watch.
Scrolling reels on Instagram and Facebook feeds is also very smooth. This display will definitely not disappoint you.
The Poco C50 has one top speaker, so the sound quality is above average. On the positive side, the speaker is not covered when holding the phone. On the other hand, there is a risk of unintentionally covering the speaker when holding the phone horizontally. The audio actually sounds extremely amazing and is clear and loud.
Poco C50 review: Performance and cameras
The Poco C50 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio A22 SoC and up to 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The model we have now has 32GB of storage, 22GB of which is usable, and 3GB of RAM. Which, in our opinion, is sufficient to install all the necessary programs. Although the app launch speed of this smartphone is not the fastest, it is remarkably reliable.
The overall performance of the phone is really good considering the price it sells for. It supports only one WiFi band (2.4GHz), which is more than enough for streaming videos and using all your social media apps. However, due to the 32GB capacity, downloading large applications and games will take a long time.
As for the operating system, the Poco C50 runs on Android 12 Go Edition, which is an improved version of the original Android operating system. There is absolutely no bloatware present. While not the smoothest, it is often extremely responsive.
Now, we assume that most of your day-to-day duties will be handled by this phone if you decide to buy it. In fact, you can even join most basic games like Subway Surfer. However, if you intend to play graphically demanding games like COD Mobile, we suggest you look elsewhere.

The device also includes an FM radio. Use your wired headphones to listen to music on the go. But keep in mind that the headphone cable must be plugged in for the radio to work.
The Poco C50’s dual rear camera system, which includes an 8-megapixel primary sensor, adds AI capabilities. The front of the gadget has a 5-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.
Although the camera performance is somewhat basic, HDR, it manages to take fairly decent pictures. The dynamic range is also favorable. Since you’ll be seeing true colors, you can’t really complain. However, selfies with and without portraits work great in well-lit environments.
In addition, you can take Full HD videos, which, although not the best, still serve their purpose.
The battery is really powerful. The device includes a very efficient 5,000 mAh battery that works well with the processor. With moderate use, the battery lasts about two days. The main disadvantage is the slow (10W) charger, which needs more than three hours to fully charge. The manufacturer could have included this smartphone with an 18-watt charger and a USB Type-C port.

Okay, final notes. Perhaps the price is really important and you can get a really excellent display for around Rs 6,499. Moreover, it provides a pure Android experience. The design and the leather-like back panel are also great. In addition, the 5,000 mAh battery and overall performance are excellent.
While we are aware that this is a budget smartphone, the Micro USB port and 10W charger are so old in 2023. Poco should definitely improve it. In 2023, we should have expected at least a USB Type-C port and an 18W charger from every phone. Basically, it’s a perfect phone for newbies, older people, and even your young teenagers who you want to keep in touch with.
