Canon EOS R5 C 8K RAW Digital Cinema Camera Launched in India
Canon today launched the EOS R5 C full-frame hybrid camera, the latest addition to the company’s Cinema EOS system for video production. Capable of capturing 8K RAW video internally, the camera features a 45-megapixel CMOS sensor with a Digic X processor.
The Canon EOS R5 C features Canon’s proprietary full-frame CMOS sensor with 45 million effective pixels and a DIGIC X image processor that can record 8K/30P RAW video internally and 8K/60P RAW video when using an external power source. Since the camera supports 8K / 30P recording in the highly adaptable MP4 file format, it is also suitable for a wide range of video production settings.

EOS R5 C can upsample to deliver high-quality 4K / 4:2:2 / 10-bit video with complete pixel readout from 8K effective pixels with rich data. In addition, the R5 C’s patented heat transfer design and integrated heat transfer fan enable longer video recording times than the EOS R5.

According to the company, the EOS R5 C can be used as a Cinema EOS System-quality video camera or as a camera with performance equivalent to the EOS R5 mirrorless by switching modes using the ON/OFF switch on the camera body (released July 2020). The new camera is ideal for a wide range of applications where mobility is critical, such as journalism, and areas requiring cinema-level image quality, such as advertising and corporate video production.
The Cinema RAW Light recording format uses the EOS R5 C camera, which preserves the data richness of RAW video while reducing the file size. Video can be captured to media such as CFexpress cards without the use of an external recording device thanks to the integrated recording capabilities. The camera also supports Canon’s proprietary XF-AVC format, which is based on broadcast standards, making it versatile and adaptable to different user workflows. In addition, a high frame rate of up to 4K / 120P enables smooth video recording even when shooting slow motion.

In addition, thanks to the number of 45 million effective pixels, the Canon camera achieves both excellent image quality and fast continuous shooting. Continuous shooting is possible at up to approximately 20 frames per second (FPS) with the electronic shutter and up to approximately 12 frames per second with the mechanical shutter/electronic iris, enabling high-quality capture of even moving subjects.
In terms of price and availability, the Canon EOS R5 C will be available in March for $4,499, which translates to Rs 3,35,200.
