Sony’s strength in the mid-range TWS segment
Sony recently brought the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N to India. Although these TWS were released to the international market quite some time ago, but hey, better late than never. Available in two colors, white and black, we got our hands on the latter which has a textured matte finish. Having spent over 3 weeks with them, here is our full review of the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N.
Sony LinkBuds S LS900N Review: Design
Sony puts a lot of emphasis on its green initiative, and the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N is no different. The box they come in is made of cardboard and paper which is good. Also, the materials used to make the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N are also recycled materials obtained from automotive parts. Again reinforcing Sony’s stance on pure sustainability.

In the box, you get a thin pill-shaped charging case, which also hides the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N headphones inside. The box also has 3 sets of silicone ear tips (large, medium and small) and a short USB Type-C charging cable along with a manual and warranty information.
The charging case has a Sony logo on the top, an LED indicator on the gap, a USB Type-C port on the back along with a BT connect button. The Sony LinkBuds S LS900N are magnetic so they snap easily into the charging case. Sony claims these are one of the lightest TWS on the market and they feel light to us. We weighed them and each weighs just under 5 grams. The charging case weighs 33 grams.

The Sony LinkBuds S LS900N seem well built with a small metal mesh on top that hides the microphones under each one. Additional microphones are placed inside for better voice reception and ANC. Proximity sensors are also located on each earpiece. You remove any of them and the music pauses, plug them back in and the sound starts from where it left off. Sony LinkBuds S LS900N Review: Performance
Let’s get to the part you’ve all been waiting for, the performance of the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N. Ok, since we reviewed its bigger and more expensive brother – the Sony 1000XM4, our expectations were high. But somewhere along the line we had to tell ourselves that this is its middle class sibling and we should treat it as such. We don’t get exactly the same or better things/features you get on the older brother, but what this one has almost given, almost the same, is resonance.
We were impressed with the sound quality that the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N provided. These are great for the price and the ANC (active noise cancellation) earns the brand a very good buy. We played a lot of different types of audio with them. We watched a few shows on Netflix, a few videos on YT and music via Amazon Music. Not once did it give us a chance to argue when it came to highs, mids, or lows. The only place it could be stronger is the bass, which can be done to some extent using the equalizer options in Sony’s headphone app.
Battery life isn’t too shabby on these. We got about 5.75 hours of battery life, and the charging case gave us another 13.5 hours, which is about what Sony also claims. But the best part is that Sony LinkBuds S LS900N can give you 60 minutes of playback in just 5 minutes of charging.

We also played games like Apex Legends mobile and Asphalt 9 using the Sony LinkBuds S LS900N. While these aren’t specifically made for gaming, they are great for gaming. Lag is minimal and we’ve had great reception. They are also very good for calls. The other side can hear us clearly and we can hear them pretty well too.
The usual tap gestures are also available. If you want to hear ambient sounds or when someone is talking to you, just tap and hold the left earpiece and the music will turn down and you’ll hear people talking to you. Release it and the music will start again. Double-tap each to skip to the next or previous track, or tap once to pause the music.
Statement
All in all, the Rs 14,990 Sony LinkBuds S LS900N are very good. They have decent battery life, good sound quality and one can easily wear them for hours. And yes, these are IPX4 rated, so you can take them for a run or to the gym without worrying about splashes or sweat. In addition, the ANC works very well. All in all, if you’re looking for inexpensive headphones with good sound and ANC, your search ends here.
